Mae Sa LongnecksCulture preservation or human zoo? Many people find it awkward to pay to see humans. But... The Long Neck Karen need cash money these days. They can't pay a dentist or hospital with chickens any more, nor can they trade some cloth for gas for their motorbikes. They need the tourists to bring money in exchange for sharing their culture. As in any good business, both sides get what they want. The tourists get a glimps of an ancient culture, and the tribes get cash. Have a good time and remember that behind the show are a people deserving of sincere respect. More pictures if you click here |

Buddha's lost childrenThe Temple of the Golden Horse This monk used to be a soldier and Thai boxer. Now he takes on orphans and poor boys from nearby villages. He teaches them Buddhism, Thai boxing and horse riding. Like a father, the Buddhist monk takes care of the novices in his temple. Novices on the horses meet in the morning in order to collect the alms with the monks. The temple is in the mountains of Chiang Rai near the Thai-Burmese border in notorious terrain of the Golden Triangle. It is hard to find but I can take you. Alms are collected in early morning so we leave from Chiang Mai the day before. More pictures if you click here |
